T. J. Bertges. the 14 year old son of Jim Bertges
(former President of The Pittsburgh's Circle Track
Racing Club and former race car driver) is very ill
with Leukemia and is currently undergoing
chemotherapy. In the process his hair began
to fall out and feeling a little uncomfortable being
a teenager, T.J. came up with the idea to collect
as many hats as possible. The Quest is now
underway and he has even registered with the
Guiness Book of World Records to seeif he can
break the record. The Record is around 83,000 hats. T.J. promises to wear each hat at least once. One goal is to collect a hat from each state and as many countries as possible. Any type of hat will do.
Racing has always been a part of T.J.'s life and you can send him any type of hat related or unrelated to racing. T'J.'s plans for the hats is not only to try to break the record, but to share the hats with other boys and girls who are facng the same battle as he is.
We ask if you do send T.J. a hat please include a personal note to let him know how many people have him in their thoughts and prayers. A card with a quick note or a letter would be better. His days for the most part are spent at home or in the hospital. He also has his own care page and his my space web address is www.myspace.com/tjsjourney. The site will allow you to view what is happening daily in T.J.'s battle.
The address that you can send any hat and or cards is
TJ's Journey
